Charbonneau: General Assembly kicks off 2026 session

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 18, 2025) — State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso) gathered with fellow legislators today at the Statehouse for Organization Day – the ceremonial start of the Indiana General Assembly.

Organization Day marks the annual first roll call of all state lawmakers. This day also provides members of the Senate and House of Representatives with the opportunity to meet before session officially reconvenes on Jan. 5. By state law, the 2026 session will conclude on or before March 14.

"During the Interim Study Committee on Public Health, Behavioral Health and Human Services, which I chaired, we studied several pressing topics, including maternal health care and water safety," Charbonneau said. "I look forward to working with my fellow legislators on these issues and many others impacting our local community."

As the 2026 session gets underway, Charbonneau encourages residents of Senate District 5 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Charbonneau can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Charbonneau or by phone at 800-382-9467.
