Charbonneau: Communities in Senate District 5 receive more than $8 million in road-funding grants

STATEHOUSE (April 14, 2020) — Communities in Senate District 5 will receive more than $8 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since it was put into place, the program has awarded more than $738 million in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 5, the following communities received grants:

  • Chesterton received $237,877.50;
  • Crown Point received $1 million;
  • DeMotte received $1 million;
  • Hebron received $365,651.25;
  • Jasper County received $1 million;
  • Kouts received $296,559;
  • North Judson received $147,075;
  • Portage received $1 million;
  • Porter County received $500,000;
  • Pulaski County received $397,500;
  • Starke County received $1 million;
  • Valparaiso received $1 million; and
  • Westville received $120,000.

“Ensuring the well-being of Hoosiers remains my top priority, and I am delighted to see so many of our communities and those across the state receive funding to ensure the safety of our roads and bridges,” Charbonneau said. “I’m eager to see the positive impact these projects will have on Senate District 5.”

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations of greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations of greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
