On July 4, 2026, Americas are celebrating the most important milestone yet in the nation's history: 250 years of independence.
Against all odds, America's ancestors decided 250 years ago it was time to declare freedom from Great Britain. After weeks of drafting the declaration, Thomas Jefferson submitted the document to the Continental Congress, and they officially approved and adopted the Declaration of Independence, creating the United States of America.
This is a time to reflect upon and celebrate the trials and triumphs America has endured over the last 250 years that have culminated in the creation of the most powerful country in the world.
America has been – and continues to be – shaped by bold ideas and pivotal moments of courage from her people.
From the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the outlining of the U.S. Constitution to spreading freedom and hope throughout the world, America continues to be a beacon of freedom, opportunity and innovation.
As we celebrate this monumental milestone, let us remember the United States of America is built by those who dream big, persevere and serve to inspire the nation's future generations.
Indiana's contributions are not just seen through the famous Eli Lilly and Company and the Indianapolis 500, but through small towns, family businesses, farmers and communities across the state where hardworking Hoosiers put down roots, raise families, help their neighbors and salute the flag.
As proud Americans, we know freedom isn’t free. When you celebrate this weekend, remember the veterans, active-duty soldiers and first responders who work to protect American’s freedoms and democracy every day. This country wouldn't be possible without their sacrifices.
Senate Republicans are wishing all Hoosiers a safe and happy Independence Day!
