BYRNE CONGRATULATES LOCAL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AT THE STATEHOUSE: State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) congratulates the Lanesville Junior-Senior High School girls basketball team on winning the Indiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A State Championship for the second year in row with Senate Resolution 39 at the Statehouse Thursday, Feb. 29.

The team won their second state championship in school history when they beat the Marquette Catholic Blazers by a score of 51-43 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Saturday, Feb. 24.

Following the game, Ava Kerr received the Roy Mental Attitude Award, which is presented annually to a senior who has demonstrated excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability.

"This group of girls has tackled a lot together with the team rounding out the season on an incredible 29-1 record while two of their players were out for physical injuries," Byrne said. "Paired with a back-to-back state championship win, this shows the girls' high level of perseverance and teamwork, and I am proud to honor their hard work through Senate Resolution 39."
