FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEHOUSE (April 14, 2026) — A bill authored by State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) that will require public schools to incorporate successful values into their curriculum was ceremonially signed into law by Gov. Mike Braun today.
Senate Enrolled Act 88 requires schools to teach the "success sequence" of obtaining a high school diploma, securing full time employment and waiting until marriage to begin having children, a sequence which research shows has a 97% success rate of avoiding poverty.
SEA 88 also requires any Indiana public university to accept the Classic Learning Test results in the same way the school accepts the ACT and SAT results for admissions purposes.
"It is important to incorporate these ideas in the classroom to help set students up for successful lives,” Byrne said. “By requiring public colleges in Indiana to accept the CLT, we are giving students more options to demonstrate their knowledge and therefore more options when applying for colleges in our state."
Byrne encourages residents of Senate District 47 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Byrne can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Byrne or by phone at 800-382-9467.
