Businesses commit to create more than 31,000 new Hoosier jobs

Recently, Indiana marked the end of a second record-breaking year for economic development by announcing that businesses have committed to create 31,112 new jobs for Hoosiers in 2018. Together, these businesses pledged to invest more than $7.38 billion to locate or expand in Indiana in the coming years.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) received 320 commitments, and of these, 221 include average wages at or above the county average wage. The average wage of these new jobs is $26.84 per hour, or nearly $56,000 annually, which is more than 20 percent higher than Indiana’s average wage and the second-highest annual average wage ever committed to the IEDC.

Indiana was also named one of the top 10 states for doing business by Site Selection Magazine, Area Development Magazine, Chief Executive Magazine and Forbes.
