Plymouth High School graduate gains experience at Indiana Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 19, 2024) – Leah Tanner is serving as an intern for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2024 legislative session, said State Sen. Mike Bohacek (R-Michiana Shores).

Tanner, a resident of Plymouth, is the daughter of Dan and Jeanne Tanner. Tanner graduated from Plymouth High School and is a sophomore at Saint Mary's College studying communication.

"Interns are extremely helpful to the Senate, especially during a busy legislative session," Bohacek said. "It's exciting to have interns from the local community coming to the Statehouse to gain professional experience."

As a press secretary intern, Tanner tracks legislation and media coverage, writes news release and op-eds, creates e-communication and social media strategies, and works with members of media.

"I've always been interested in government," Tanner said. "It's really exciting to see how state government works firsthand and an interesting experience to be a part of. Getting to work with my district's state senator has been an honor. There is so much that goes into creating legislation, and I have enjoyed watching Sen. Bohacek work hard for our district."

Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by March 14.
