Apply Now: Free Prekindergarten

The application deadline for state prekindergarten grants is rapidly approaching. On My Way Pre-K will award grants to four year olds from low-income families who meet eligibility requirements. Qualified children will have access to a high-quality Pre-K program starting in January 2015.

How do you know if your child is eligible for a free prekindergarten education? Families must meet the following criteria to apply:

• Family income below 127 percent of the federal poverty level (see income eligibility chart),
  
• The family must live in Allen, Lake, Marion, Jackson or Vanderburgh Counties, and
  
• The child must be four years old and starting kindergarten in August 2015.
  

Applications will be accepted until Dec. 15. If more applications are received than grants available, awards will be made through a randomized lottery process.

Once a family receives a grant, parents may choose from any of the qualified On My Way Pre-K programs. Indiana’s Office of Early Education and Out-of-School Learning is currently enrolling early learning programs to participate (click here for more details on provider eligibility).

On My Way Pre-K in Jackson County will become operational in 2015.

Parents will also need to collect additional required documentation showing that your child is eligible for a grant, including your child’s age, household income and proof of residency.
