STATEHOUSE (Jan. 14, 2026) — The Indiana Department of Transportation will soon open bids for the truss reconstruction and repair project for the State Road 225 bridge in Tippecanoe County, said State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette).
The bridge, which has been closed since July 2022, carries traffic over the Wabash River near Prophetstown State Park.
"The State Road 225 bridge is a vital connection point for Battle Ground, Americus and Delphi," Alting said. "Its closure in recent years has had an impact on area residents experiencing the pinch from high gas prices who now have to drive extra miles to get to their destination. I am glad to see work finally begin to reopen the bridge."
The bridge was originally built in 1910 and was closed due to cracks in the structure. It is listed as a historic bridge, which requires INDOT to follow procedures outlined by the State Historical Preservation Office and federal law.
"As your State Senator, I will continue to work with INDOT to ensure this bridge is properly repaired," Alting said. "INDOT has already received multiple bids for the work, and I will be persistent in getting this project moving forward. As 'The Crossroads of America,' it's important our roads and bridges are well maintained for future generations."
Alting encourages residents of Senate District 22 to take his constituent survey at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Alting. Constituents can also contact Alting by filling out a "Contact Me" form on the website.
