Alting: Twin Lakes student awarded Senator Ron Alting Scholarship

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 20, 2023)Twin Lakes High School senior Olivia Nickerson was awarded the Sen. Ron Alting Scholarship during this year's IU Health Hoops Classic Basketball tournament, said State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette).

"As someone who had to work two jobs to obtain my degree from Purdue University, I know how difficult it can be for young folks to pay for pursuing their dreams and obtain their educational goals after high school," Alting said. "I believe it is very important for young adults to achieve some form of post-secondary education in order to have more successful careers. That is why I created the Sen. Ron Alting Scholarship."

The scholarship can help pay for of any post-secondary education activity, whether that be a college or university, vocational program or trade school, Alting said.

"It means a lot to me to be able to award this scholarship to Olivia so she can continue to work to fulfill her dreams," Alting said. "Olivia is a wonderful young lady who exemplifies what it means to be a student athlete."

The recipient of the scholarship is selected by coaches who participate in the Hoops Classic Basketball Tournament.
