Alting: Local students awarded Senator Ron Alting Scholarships

STATEHOUSE (Dec. 11, 2025) – McCutcheon High School senior Aubrey Miller and West Lafayette High School senior Ben Werth were awarded the Sen. Ron Alting Scholarships during this year's IU Health Hoops Classic Basketball tournament, said State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette).

"I know too well how difficult it is to financially continue with your education," Alting said. "After graduating from high school, I worked jobs, days and nights, to get my degree from Purdue University. I hope this will be of some assistance to these young people as they continue their education."

Each recipient received $1,000, and the scholarship can help pay for any post-secondary education activity, whether that be a college or university, vocational program or trade school.

"These two student athletes show a lot of wonderful potential through their dedication, hard work and sportsmanship," Alting said. "I was pleased to be able to award these scholarships to these students and look forward to seeing their future endeavors."

The recipient of the scholarship is selected by coaches who participate in the Hoops Classic Basketball Tournament.
