Alting, INDOT discuss State Road 225 bridge rehabilitation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEHOUSE (April 15, 2026) – State Sen. Ron Alting (R-Lafayette) and officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation met Tuesday, April 14, to discuss a rehabilitation project for the State Road 225 bridge over the Wabash River in Tippecanoe County.

This historic bridge, built more than 100 years ago, has been closed to traffic for more than three years.

"For more than a century, the bridge has been a vital piece of our local infrastructure that allowed our neighbors to get to work and school quickly and safely," Alting said. "Its closure has meant longer commute times during a time when gas prices have remained consistently high."

The bridge is a major connection point for Battle Ground, Delphi, Americus and Prophetstown State Park. It is listed as a historic bridge, which requires INDOT to follow procedures outlined by the State Historical Preservation Office and federal law.

"I have spoken with many local residents, as well as local police and fire officials, who are concerned the bridge's closure adds significant time to emergency responses," Alting said. "In times when seconds matter, it's vital first responders can quickly get to emergencies to help our family, friends and neighbors in their times of need. That's one of the many reasons I am happy to see the project finally get started."

Work on the bridge got underway Tuesday and is expected to last through November 2027.

Alting encourages residents of Senate District 22 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Alting can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Alting or by phone at 800-382-9467.
