Alexander's bill to protect minors from tobacco and vaping products ceremonially signed into law

STATEHOUSE (May 13, 2026) — A bill authored by State Sen. Scott Alexander (R-Muncie) that protects minors from tobacco and vaping products was ceremonially signed into law by Gov. Mike Braun.

Senate Enrolled Act 144 modernizes Indiana Code by clarifying that tobacco products include modern vaporizer devices and increases the penalty for a person who provides tobacco or an e-liquid vaporizer to a person less than 21 years of age.

"Addictive products like tobacco and vaping devices should never make it into the hands of minors," Alexander said. "This bill gives our state better tools to deter the illegal sale of these products to young Hoosiers, and I was pleased to join the governor as he ceremonially signed it into law."

Alexander encourages residents of Senate District 26 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Alexander can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Alexander or by phone at 800-382-9467.
