2019 interim study committee topics

When Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session, lawmakers serve on interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.

Interim study committees meet during the summer and fall months in preparation for the 2020 session of the General Assembly.

Study committee topics are assigned by the bipartisan Legislative Council, comprised of 16 voting members — eight from the Senate and eight from the House of Representatives.

Some of the topics assigned to study committees this year include:

• Reviewing factors contributing to our state’s growing health care and prescription costs in the Interim Study Committee on Health and Provider Services;
  
  
• Researching opportunities to further ensure the safety of Indiana’s roads and highways in the Interim Study Committee on Roads and Transportation;
  
  
• Discussing a variety of important education topics, including our state’s current elementary and high school career counseling system in the Interim Study Committee on Education;
  
  
• Identifying policies to better protect senior citizens from financial exploitation in the Probate Code Study Commission;
  
  
• Determining solutions to preserve Indiana’s farmland and Lake Michigan beaches in the Interim Study Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources.
