Statement from State Sen. Andy Zay
State Sen. Andy Zay (R-Huntington) made the following statement regarding the Indiana Court of Appeals decision:

STATEHOUSE (April 8, 2024) – "The recent decision made by the Indiana Court of Appeals that allows abortions if a woman claims it is a religious act is unacceptable.

"Simply put, the court made the wrong decision - we should not allow 'sacrificing of life' as a religious exemption. It completely disregards the value of life and need to protect unborn babies. This decision goes against Indiana's longstanding pro-life values and diminishes the successes our state has achieved in the fight to protect life, which most recently have included decreases in abortion rates, infant mortality and maternal mortality.

"A religious exemption to allow abortion when so many of faith are actively attempting to protect life isn’t just incorrect - it is perverse. I hope this ruling is overturned on appeal. In the Indiana Senate I was proud to support the strictest abortion ban in the country while expanding care for expecting mothers."
