STATEHOUSE (Feb. 12, 2018) – Sen.-elect Brian Buchanan (R-Lebanon) today became the state senator for Senate District 7 after taking the oath of office. He was sworn in by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush.
Buchanan fills the Senate seat previously held by State Sen. Brandt Hershman, who resigned to take a job in Washington, D.C., last month. He will finish the remainder of Hershman’s term, serving White County and portions of Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Jasper and Tippecanoe counties.
“I am grateful to have this opportunity to serve the great people of Senate District 7. Sen. Hershman left a tremendous legacy on our state, and I will have big shoes to fill,” Buchanan said. “However, as a resident of Lebanon and a former member of the Boone County Council, I am familiar with the issues facing our community and state, and I am ready for this challenge and eager to get to work.”
Buchanan earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from Purdue University.
Outside of public service, he works for his family’s business, Buchanan Hauling and Rigging Inc., which operates more than 300 tractor/trailers and a logistics management division. Previously, he served as executive director of the Indiana FFA Foundation. He and his wife, Elisha, live in Lebanon and have two children.
