State Sen. Dennis Kruse to Serve as Chair of Education Study Committee

STATEHOUSE (June 29, 2017) — State Sen. Dennis Kruse (R-Auburn) has been appointed by Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) to serve as the Chair of the Interim Study Committee on Education and as a member of the Education Commission of the States.

“This summer and fall, members of the Education committee will hear testimony from Hoosier parents, students and teachers regarding Indiana’s education system,” Kruse said. “Some of these topics include creating and learning about new professional development programs for teachers, in-state tuition eligibility for undocumented students, and various issues relating to the federal Every Student Succeeds Act.”

When Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session, lawmakers serve on interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.

Study committee topics are assigned by the bipartisan Legislative Council, comprised of 16 voting members — eight from the Senate and eight from the House of Representatives.
