Legislative Council Announces Interim Study Committee Topics

STATEHOUSE (May 25, 2017) ― The Indiana General Assembly’s Legislative Council met today to assign topics for lawmakers to study during the 2017 legislative interim.

The Legislative Council is comprised of eight members of the Indiana Senate and eight members of the Indiana House of Representatives. This year, Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) is serving as chair and House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) is serving as vice-chair.

“Study committees are an important part of the legislative process in Indiana,” Long said. “These committees allow legislators to examine issues on a deeper level than we may otherwise have the ability to do under the time constraints of the legislative session. They also provide an important forum for gathering input from members of the public and other stakeholders.”

In the coming weeks, House and Senate leaders will assign members to each study committee. Committees will meet during the summer and fall months in preparation for the 2018 session of the General Assembly.

The resolutions approved today by the Legislative Council, including assignment of study topics, are linked below.

Resolution 17-01 (Interim study committee topic assignments)

Resolution 17-02 (Interim study committee policies)

Resolution 17-03 (Payment of association dues)
