Bassler to Serve on Conference Committee for Transportation Infrastructure Funding Bill

STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2017) – State Sen. Eric Bassler (R-Washington) has been appointed by Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) to serve as a Senate advisor on the Conference Committee for House Bill 1002.

HB 1002, commonly known as the road funding bill, has passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 61-36 and the Senate 34-13. After HB 1002 passed out of the House, amendments were made to the bill by the Senate, which means it will go to a Conference Committee.

Conference Committees are made up of members of the House and the Senate. They work to craft a final version of the bill, which both the House and Senate must approve. If both chambers pass the final bill, it will move to the governor for consideration.

“It’s a privilege to serve as a Senate advisor on the House Bill 1002 Conference Committee as we address Indiana’s long-term road funding,” Bassler said. “I am hopeful that the final proposal will fund Indiana’s infrastructure needs through the next 20 years and will be a compromise based on the ongoing discussions among the Senate, House and governor.”
