State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville, center) receives a framed photograph from members of the Evansville Fire Department at the Statehouse Wednesday, Feb. 3.
This past fall, Tomes and his wife, Margie, joined the Evansville Fire Department and Firefighter’s Local 357 to partake in their Fire Ops 101 class. As participants, they had to perform various training exercises like using extrication tools on a car, entering a burn chamber, climbing a ladder truck and practicing CPR.
Larry Zuber (left) and Mark Mastison (right), both with the Evansville Fire Department, delivered the framed photo of Tomes and his wife during their Fire Ops 101 class as a token commemorating their time spent with the members of the fire department.
“I truly appreciate this kind gesture of the Evansville Fire Department — my wife and I had a wonderful time learning what it takes to be firefighters,” Tomes said. “Whenever I look at this, it will make me think of our time living a day in the life of a firefighter, and remind me of the immense courage of these men and women. I will continue to be a strong advocate for the needs of Hoosier firefighters.”
