State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville, third from left) welcomed Ivy Tech Community College staff and students to the Statehouse Wednesday for Ivy Tech Day. The Ivy Tech Evansville Campus Director of Student Life, LaNell Lucius (fifth from left), and student representatives joined Tomes for a day to enhance their understanding of the legislative process in Indiana. At this event, students interacted with their elected officials and discussed the importance of supporting funding for community colleges. “These students are the future of Indiana, and it was a pleasure to meet with them and hear their plans for after college,” Tomes said. “Higher education, or secondary training of any kind, is vital for a successful career.” Tomes has also attended and completed courses with Ivy Tech. This year, several hundred Ivy Tech students from 14 regions visited the Statehouse to participate in Ivy Tech Day.
