Sen. Head Recognized For Dedication to Individuals with Developmental Disabilities

STATEHOUSE (March 4, 2014) – State Sen. Randy Head (R-Logansport) recently received the 2013 Public Policy Award from the Arc of Indiana for his dedication and leadership in shaping policies to better serve those with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.

“Sen. Head is a tireless advocate for those with developmental disabilities,” said Kim Dodson, associate executive director at the Arc of Indiana. “Not only with his legislation, but with his devotion to these individuals and truly grasping what their lives are like day to day.”

The Arc of Indiana noted Head’s work as chair of the Autism Commission and authoring Senate Enrolled Act 345 during the 2013 legislative session. SEA 345 encourages better training and standards for teachers to reduce the use of seclusion and restraint in schools for all children.

“I am grateful to the Arc of Indiana for their continued commitment to helping people with disabilities, and I am honored to receive this award,” Head said. “Supporting legislation that improves the lives of all Hoosiers is one of my main priorities. I will remain dedicated to addressing the hurdles individuals with cognitive and other developmental disabilities experience.”
