State Sen. Brandt Hershman (R-Buck Creek) made the following statement today congratulating Elizabeth Parrish, a fourth-grade student from Van Rensselaer Elementary School, for winning third place in the Indiana Statehood Day essay contest
STATEHOUSE (Nov. 22, 2013) — “Elizabeth’s essay about the Hoosier heroes in her life appropriately reflects the mission of Statehood Day – to celebrate Indiana and reflect on our place in its history. In her writing, Elizabeth recognized heroes from both Indiana’s past and present, including people from her community, church and family. I enjoyed reading her paper, and I congratulate Elizabeth on achieving third place in this year’s Statehood Day essay contest.”
The Statehood Day essay contest takes place every fall and is open to all Indiana fourth graders. The program is hosted by the Indiana Statehouse Tour Office and Indiana Center for the Book. Contest winners and finalists, along with their classmates, are invited to attend the Statehood Day Ceremony in Indianapolis on Dec. 11.
