Sen. Banks Welcomes Local Students to Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 1, 2013) – State Sen. Jim Banks (R-Columbia City) recently welcomed the following students to the Statehouse to serve as Senate pages:

  • Mykaela Crowell, from Columbia City, attends Indian Springs Middle School.
  • Julia Leo, from Columbia City, attends Eagle Tech Academy.
  • Taylor Lineberry, from Monroeville, attends Canterbury High School.
  • Cydnee Nelson, from Marion, attends Marion High School.
  • Katherine Parson, from Evansville, attends Indiana Connections Academy.
  • Lila Persinger, from Marion, attends Marion High School.
  • Ashley Weill, from Huntington, attends Crestview Middle School.
  • Rhea Young, from Columbia City, attends Indian Springs Middle School.

Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the chamber floor and interacting with their state senators.

“This is a great opportunity for students to visit the Statehouse and involve themselves with their state government,” Banks said. “I encourage students with an interest in government to take advantage of an opportunity for interactive education in a real-world setting.”

Students in grades six through 12 can participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 4.
