[s5] New Motorcycle Sale Law Another Economic Development Tool

STATEHOUSE (June 29, 2012) — This Sunday Hoosiers will be able to purchase fully assembled motorcycles at Indiana dealerships, thanks to a new law authored by State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso).

Senate Enrolled Act 192 repeals Indiana’s ban on the Sunday sale of motorcycles, which current law considers a Class B misdemeanor. This law not only aims at helping local business owners increase profits, but also adds convenience for Indiana consumers.

“The sale of motorcycles on Sunday will level the playing field, making our law consistent with neighboring states,” Charbonneau said. “Instead of encouraging people to go into another state to purchase motorcycles on Sunday, we can help local businesses and increase state tax revenue by removing this ban.”

SEA 192 was approved by both chambers and signed into law by Gov. Mitch Daniels on March 16, and takes effect July 1.
