STATEHOUSE (March 9, 2012) – State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) today asked the full Senate to join him in honoring the Evansville Mater Dei High School girls basketball team for their Class 2A State Championship victory.
Tomes presented Senate Resolution 100, noting that the Mater Dei Lady Wildcats finished their season with a 27-1 record, winning 20 consecutive games on their way to the state championship. Tomes added they were ranked number one in Class 2A and finished off their season with an exciting overtime win against Ft. Wayne Bishop Luers High School, 56-52, in the championship game.
“It’s amazing to see such a passionate group of young people come together, combining all sorts of skills and talents, to work toward a common goal,” Tomes said. “But the lady Wildcats did much more than that. They achieved that goal and, along the way, they created camaraderie that could last a lifetime. I commend them for utilizing the great work ethic, maturity and teamwork that it took to have such a remarkable season. As an Evansville Mater Dei High School alumnus, I am very proud.”
Tomes also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the coaching staff, Mater Dei High School administrators and the fans.
“It truly was a group effort that made this season one these girls will cherish and remember forever,” Tomes said.
