STATEHOUSE (March 2, 2012) – State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) welcomed Nazarene Christian School student Kevin Tomes of Indianapolis — his second cousin — as a Senate page in February.
During the 2012 session of the Indiana General Assembly, students throughout the state are invited to participate in the page program, making the Statehouse their classroom for the day. This experience includes a tour of the Capitol and an opportunity to be on the floor of the Senate chamber, where pages can meet, have their picture taken and deliver messages to their senators.
“This is an incredible opportunity for Kevin to come visit the Statehouse, which is basically in his backyard,” Tomes said. “It allows students from Indianapolis and across Indiana to observe how state government operates, giving them a front-row seat on the Senate floor to see the law-making process.”
Students in grades six through 12 are invited to serve as pages on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout session, Tomes said.
