STATEHOUSE (Jan. 24, 2010) - State Sens. Ron Alting and Brandt Hershman (Rs-Lafayette) will honor three Class A state championship winning teams from Lafayette Central Catholic High School at the Statehouse on Tuesday.
"Last year, the football, baseball and volleyball teams from Lafayette Central Catholic High School won state titles," Alting said. "Each team deserves individual recognition, but if you look at the school's athletic program as a whole, it is one with amazing accomplishments."
"Players, coaches, students and supporters should be proud to call themselves Knights," Hershman said. "Not only are these student athletes state champs, their grades and school spirit make them role models for future generations."
Alting said the baseball team at Lafayette Central Catholic High School won the state championship in three of the last four years. He said the football team won their second state championship last year, defeating Fountain Central in the final game.
Hershman said the Lafayette Central Catholic High School volleyball team won its first-ever Class A state championship while playing against Indianapolis Lutheran at Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University.
Alting and Hershman will present resolutions to coaches and players in the Senate Chamber at about 1:30 p.m. during Tuesday's legislative business. Visit www.in.gov/senate.republicansto view proceedings online.
