STATEHOUSE (Jan. 12, 2011) - State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) recently welcomed James Ratcliff, a son of Robin Ratcliff and student at Holy Spirit Catholic School, as a legislative page.
During the legislative session, pages spend one day at the Statehouse working with their senator and Senate staff. Tomes said student pages start the day in orientation before touring the historic Statehouse. Throughout the day, pages spend time in the Senate Chamber observing the introduction of bills, listening to debates and delivering important messages among senators and staff.
Students in grades six through 12 are invited to serve as pages on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout session, Tomes said.
Although many slots are filled for the remainder of the 2011 session, Tomes said those interested in additional information for this year's session may call 1-800-382-9467.
Sen. Tomes represents Senate District 49, which includes portions of Gibson, Posey and Vanderburgh counties.
