STATEHOUSE (Jan. 10, 2011) - State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) today announced the dates and times for a series of upcoming "Meet Your Legislators" events.
Tomes will join State Sen. Vaneta Becker (R-Evansville) in discussing the 2011 Indiana General Assembly each month while the legislature is in session.
Here is the schedule for the forums, all of which will be conducted in the Browning Meeting Rooms at the Evansville Central Library, located at 200 SE Martin Luther King Blvd:
"I'm certainly eager to hear from my constituents and other Hoosiers at these public forums," Tomes said. "I'd like to discuss my current plan of action for the 2011 session as well as listen to their comments and additional ideas."
According to Jim Daniels, event coordinator and member of the sponsoring group Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA), audience members will have two minutes each to ask their questions.
"I plan to address as many questions as possible," said Tomes. "Town hall meetings are excellent platforms for Hoosiers to voice their concerns and ideas, allowing lawmakers like me to better represent our area back at the Statehouse."
Tomes suggested attendees use the Chestnut Street entrance, because it is closest to the Browning Meeting Rooms.
Groups joining IWLA in sponsoring these meetings include the Evansville Central Library, Evansville Teachers Association, League of Women Voters, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136, Sustainable Communities Coalition, Teamsters Local 215, and Valley Watch.
Tomes said due to a time conflict, he cannot attend the first "Meet Your Legislators" event for the full time. He will be attending a second town hall meeting on Jan. 15, which is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. Sponsored by Women Right of Center, the event will be hosted at the Oaklyn Library, located at 3001 Oaklyn Dr., Evansville, IN 47711.
For more information or to share opinions on legislation, Tomes said constituents may contact him via email at Senator.Tomes@iga.in.gov or by phone at 317-232-9489.
Sen. Tomes represents Senate District 49, which includes portions of Gibson, Posey and Vanderburgh counties.
