Leising calls for cancellation of Link 101 Corridor Project

STATEHOUSE (March 28, 2024) — State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) is supporting constituents in Senate District 42 to call for the cancellation of the Link 101 Corridor Project in Southeast Indiana.

The project would create a continuous north-south connection (called State Road 101) between U.S. 50 and the Markland Dam Bridge on the Ohio River, impacting Switzerland, Ohio, Dearborn and Ripley counties.

"I have attended meetings and spoken with state transportation leaders to learn more about how this project could affect communities in my district since it was first proposed," Leising said. "While I have tried to remain open-minded on the matter, I stand with the many constituents who have reached out to express their concerns about how the project will impact our communities and their quality of life."

After receiving correspondence from many residents in Senate District 42, Leising reached out to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) on March 15 to share constituents' concerns and request additional information on the project.

After INDOT cancelled a meeting scheduled for April 1 that involved legislators and local leaders, Leising reached out again on March 28 to request an update on the project's status. In response, a spokesperson with INDOT said they could not say whether the project is approved for construction or cancelled because they are waiting on the governor to make the final decision any day now.

"The Indiana Department of Transportation has held several public meetings throughout the last year for local residents to ask questions and share their concerns about the project. Attendees' responses were heavily against the plan, and in return, the state has pushed project development forward with little consideration for our communities' thoughts," Leising said. "I seriously hope Gov. Holcomb takes into account our apprehension and responds appropriately."

In the meantime, Leising asks for constituents in Senate District 42 to reach out with any questions or concerns they may have about the project by filling out a "Contact Me" form at IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Leising.
