Byrne: General Assembly kicks off 2023 session

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 22, 2022) — State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) today gathered with fellow legislators at the Statehouse for Organization Day – the ceremonial start of the 123rd Indiana General Assembly.

Organization Day includes the swearing in of new and returning members of the General Assembly, including Byrne, who take the formal oath of office to begin a new Senate term. This day also marks the annual first roll call of all state lawmakers and gives each Senate and House of Representatives caucus the opportunity to organize in preparation for the 2023 legislative session.

During the first session of each General Assembly, lawmakers craft a comprehensive budget to fund government services for the next two fiscal years.

"I started representing Senate District 47 in the middle of the 2022 legislative session and continued to connect with and listen to the concerns of Hoosiers in the district throughout the interim," Byrne said. "I am eager to serve my first full legislative session as the district's elected official and advocate for concerns important to local constituents and our state."

As the 2023 session gets underway, Byrne encourages residents of Senate District 47 to contact him with any questions or comments they may have by email at Senator.Byrne@iga.in.gov or by phone at 800-382-9467.
