Bray names Gaskill, Buchanan senate committee chairs

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 20, 2023) — Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) today announced the new chairs of the Senate Committees on Elections and Commerce and Technology.

State Sen. Mike Gaskill (R-Pendleton) will serve as chair of the Senate Committee on Elections, and State Sen. Brian Buchanan (R-Lebanon) will serve as chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Technology.

"Sens. Gaskill and Buchanan have big shoes to fill, but I know they are up for the challenge," Bray said. "Both senators have proven themselves to be highly competent and thoughtful leaders during their tenure in the Senate. I am confident they will take on these new responsibilities with the utmost respect for the legislative process and will be ever cognizant of the impact the public policy discussions and actions taken in their committees may have on Hoosiers across the state."

Bray made these appointments following the resignations of State Sen. Jon Ford (R-Terre Haute), former chair of the Senate Committee on Elections and State Sen. Chip Perfect (R-Lawrenceburg), former chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Technology.

Lawmakers will return to the Statehouse Tuesday, Nov. 21 for Organization Day, the ceremonial start of the 2024 legislative session. Visit iga.in.gov for more information.
