This year, lawmakers sought to better serve Hoosier motorists by streamlining BMV fees.
House Enrolled Act 1087, sponsored by State Sen. Carlin Yoder (R-Middlebury), promotes fairness, transparency and reliability in BMV services by:
By simplifying fees, the BMV can charge the same amount for similar transactions that in the past may have been charged at different rates.
HEA 1087 also reduces the number of ways to register a vehicle, from 191 to 23, while consolidating the 21 vehicle-related weight classes to eight.
The law also restores the 50 percent registration fee discount for farm vehicles.
HEA 1087 goes into effect this Friday, July 1.
