Today’s job market is competitive. When applying for a position, employers want to know what makes YOU different. Students who have had real world work experience stand out above other candidates. Why not make your resume unique by interning with the Indiana State Senate?

The Indiana State Senate Republican Caucus offers legislative, legal, communications and information technology internships. Interns work directly with Indiana legislators at the Statehouse, located in downtown Indianapolis. The program is open to undergraduates, recent college graduates and graduate or law school students.

Top five reasons for YOU to apply for a Senate internship:

1. Benefits: Indiana Senate internships are paid, unlike many other internships. Senate Majority interns earn a $700 biweekly stipend.

2. Academic credit: Students may earn academic credit for the internship, depending on individual school policies.

3. Experience: Interns gain hands-on, practical experience working within Indiana state government.

4. Networking: Interns build a professional network consisting of legislators, staff members, agency liaisons, and fellow interns with similar career goals.

5. Scholarships: Each year, Senate interns are eligible to apply for academic scholarships through the Verizon Communications and Senator David Ford Scholarship Funds.

Senate interns sharpen time management, professional communication and team work skills, which are easily transferable to any job. At the conclusion of the internship, Senate interns have gained both confidence and a professional network that can be critical to finding full-time employment.

The Senate was named the 2014 Employer of the Year by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s Indiana INTERNnet program. Additionally, the Senate utilizes its internship as a pipeline for employment. Currently, over 80 percent of Senate full-time staff members are former interns.
