STATEHOUSE (April 11, 2023) — State Sen. Greg Walker (R-Columbus) and State Rep. Ryan Lauer (R-Columbus) recognized and celebrated the 100th season of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra with Senate Concurrent Resolution 36 at the Statehouse Tuesday, April 11.
The CSO has been celebrating its 100th anniversary during their 2022-2023 season, appropriately named 'Celebrating a Century of Great Music.'
The orchestra's goal is to provide the community with accessible and affordable classical music performances. It is made up of volunteer musicians who represent a diverse selection of ages, skill sets and backgrounds who share a desire to pursue lifelong learning through music.
"Our local orchestra has brought beautiful art and culture to our community with their magnificent performances," said Walker. "I congratulate and thank all who have had the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful ensemble and I look forward to hearing more music from them for years to come."
The CSO is considered the oldest continuous musical group of its kind in Indiana.
"Our community values arts and culture, and Columbus is fortunate to have a diverse group of volunteers sharing their talents, inspiring generations with their songs and bringing people together," Lauer said. "Musicians, directors and others put their love and passion into every performance – and it shows. I congratulate those, both past and present, who have kept the spirit of the music going for a century and have contributed to the Columbus Symphony Orchestra's success. We look forward to another 100 years of quality entertainment in our community."
