Sen. Garten welcomes local students to the Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (March 12, 2024) – State Sen. State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown) welcomed the following local students to the Statehouse who served as Senate pages in February.

  • Emily Jacobs, from Charlestown, attends Charlestown Middle School
  • Griffin Owens, from Scottsburg, attends Scottsburg High School

Pages spend a day at the Statehouse touring the historic building, observing debates from the Senate floor and interacting with their state senator.

"The Senate Page Program is an excellent way for young Hoosiers to learn how they can become civically involved in their local community," Garten said. "I enjoyed meeting these pages and answering their questions to help them learn about the legislative process."

Students in grades six through 12 participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. Groups serve on Wednesdays.
