Celebrating Local Schools

By State Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Richmond)

Educators are among the first leaders our children meet and trust, so it is important to celebrate the dedication and passion our educators bring to classrooms across the state.

This is why I was thrilled to attend the first-annual Indiana Excellence Awards Gala on Friday, Aug. 9, and congratulate the many well-deserved school corporations and teachers throughout our state for their incredible achievements that will impact the lives of students for generations.

The event, hosted by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), brought together nearly 400 educators and guests and awarded $4.6 million to schools across the state to celebrate their accomplishments in supporting the growth of our educators and students.

Eight awards, which recognize excellence in areas including STEM, early literacy, professional development, and the completion of postsecondary credentials, were given to schools and individual educators. A full list of recipients is found at in.gov/DOE.

The Randolph Eastern School Corporation was one of several schools honored last week. The corporation was awarded $425,000 through the Excellence in Leading and Learning Award.

The award recognized one Indiana school corporation that provides valuable support for educators through instructional resources and professional development opportunities, and that recorded the most professional growth per teacher through the Indiana Learning Lab - an online program designed to support Indiana educators.

As chair of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development, it was exciting to gather with educators across the state and celebrate their accomplishments. I am proud to see a Senate District 27 school corporation recognized by the state for its dedication in equipping educators with the resources to develop their professional skills and confidently instruct Hoosier children.
