Messmer: Resolution honoring Pike Central teacher passes Senate

STATEHOUSE (March 5, 2024) — A resolution authored by State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) that recognizes the Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association's Rural Teacher of the Year passed the Senate Tuesday, March 5.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 28 honors Pike Central High School teacher Jodie Elkins for winning the 2024 Rural Teacher of the Year Award, which is sponsored by the Indiana Farm Bureau.

A Pike Central High School graduate herself, Elkins earned her education degrees from Hanover College and the University of Evansville.

"Jodie is a great example of someone who dedicates themselves to making their communities better for all local residents," Messmer said. "I am glad I had the opportunity to recognize her for her work in Pike County and am pleased to recognize her hard work in the Senate."

Nominations for the 2025 Rural Teacher of Year Award are due by April 12, 2024.
