Messmer Report: Helping at-risk veterans

Helping at-risk veterans

By State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper)

The Indiana General Assembly makes consistent efforts to honor and show appreciation for the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving our country.

This legislative session, lawmakers have worked hard to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of Hoosier veterans.

House Enrolled Act 1021 would create the Green Alert Program for missing or at-risk veterans, which would require a public notification to be sent out to Hoosiers with information regarding missing and at-risk veterans.

This legislation would require the Indiana Clearinghouse for Information on Missing Children and Missing Endangered Adults to transmit information regarding veterans to broadcast channels around Indiana.

The hope of this bill is to help find missing veterans and reunite them with their loved ones as soon as possible.

Generations of Hoosiers have reaffirmed their dedication and loyalty to our country by serving in our military. It is our responsibility to support them and their families in return and this legislation works to do that.

If you or someone in your family has military history, I encourage you to visit IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/veterans to learn more about benefits and resources available to veterans in Indiana.

House Enrolled Act 1021 unanimously passed the General Assembly. It will now go to the governor's desk for final consideration.
