With the arrival of the holidays, Hoosiers across the state will be giving back to those less fortunate.
Whether you donate your time, money or extra food items to those in need, there are many ways we can help our neighbors.
Since 2008, Hoosier deer hunters have been able to donate deer meat through the Indiana Hunt for Hunger program, formerly known as the Sportsmen's Benevolence Fund, through a partnership with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Dubois County Sportsman's Club, Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry and Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry.
Since its inception, the program has collected thousands of deer and provided hundreds of thousands of meals for Hoosiers around the state.
According to the DNR, one deer can provide 200 meals for a family.
You can take part in the program by dropping off a field-dressed deer at a local participating processor, which creates venison burger to distribute to local food banks.
More than 50 processors statewide are participating in the program this year.
In Senate District 48, hunters can take deer to the following processors:
Processing fees are paid by the Hunt for Hunger program at no cost to the hunter.
