STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2024) — Communities in Senate District 48 will receive more than $9.6 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded nearly $1.7 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 48, the following communities received grants:

  • Cannelton received $47,719.12;
  • Dubois County received $1,005.866.01;
  • English received $179,403.75;
  • Ferdinand received $201,102.50;
  • Gibson County received $1.5 million;
  • Huntingburg received $604,988.76;
  • Jasper received $336,115.80;
  • Milltown received $93,827.80;
  • Patoka received $100,808.81;
  • Perry County received $1.5 million;
  • Pike County received $1,498,570.65;
  • Spencer County received $1.5 million;
  • Tell City received $995,349.47; and
  • Winslow received $61,265.62.

"As a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Transportation, I know the importance of safe, high-quality infrastructure in our communities," Messmer said. "Having well-maintained roads and bridges is vital to the local economy, and I am pleased to see communities in Senate District 48 take advantage of the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.

The CCMG offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in July of 2024.
