Leising celebrates National Agriculture Day

STATEHOUSE (March 19, 2024) — State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg), chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, is joining other stakeholders in celebrating Tuesday, March 19 as National Agriculture Day.

National Agriculture Day celebrates countless people, including farmers and agricultural associations and corporations, who contribute to the agriculture industry and highlights agriculture's contributions to our national, state and local economies.

"Agriculture is deeply rooted in Indiana's history and continues to grow by contributing an estimated $35.1 billion to the state's economy," Leising said. "I am proud to celebrate National Agriculture Day and thank the many farmers, agriculture companies and agriscientists for working hard to further strengthen our state's agriculture industry."

Indiana ranks as one of the nation's top agricultural states, with over 94,000 farmers and 14.6 million acres of farmland. Agriculture production in Indiana alone has grown 62% over the last five years and is valued at over $18 million.

Notably, Indiana ranks as the No. 1 producer of popcorn, No. 3 producer of eggs, No. 4 producer of soybeans and No. 5 producer of corn.
