Leising: Bill to strengthen Indiana's public retirement system moves to governor's desk

STATEHOUSE (March 8, 2024) — A bill supported by State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) that would strengthen the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) will now move to the governor's desk for final approval.

House Enrolled Act 1004 would provide a 1% annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for public retirees who retire after July 1, 2025 and an annual 13th check for those who retire before the date.

The bill would also allow for a 13th check to be provided to public retirees in 2024.

"Public retirees include state police officers, teachers and retired state employees who dedicated their careers to public service," Leising said. "I am pleased to see this long-term fix make its way to the governor's desk, and that public retirees would receive a 13th check this year."
