Leising: Bill protecting Indiana land moves to governor's desk

STATEHOUSE (March 8, 2024) — A bill sponsored by State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) that would protect Indiana's land will now move to the governor's desk for final approval.

House Enrolled Act 1183 would prevent individuals from countries the U.S. Department of Commerce defines as adversarial states from obtaining farmland and land within a 10-mile radius of a military base in Indiana.

"If individuals from adversarial states purchase property in Indiana, it could be a homeland security risk that puts our state and residents at risk," Leising said. "I am happy to see this bill pass out of the General Assembly and make its way to the governor's desk for final consideration."

By passing this bill, the state can better protect Indiana's communities, military bases and economy from foreign threats.
