Important COVID-19 update, resources for those impacted

It was recently announced that a member of our community tested positive for the novel coronavirus. I strongly encourage residents who have been impacted by this virus and the disease it creates, COVID-19, to use the information and resources below.

Unemployment

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is accepting unemployment insurance benefits electronically at www.unemploymentIN.gov. DWD is working with WorkOne sites across our district to ensure that residents who need access to a computer have that access. Below are locations for each county in Senate District 42. As new developments become available, I encourage you to call ahead to confirm hours of operation.

Relief for small businesses

Gov. Eric Holcomb recently announced small business across the state are eligible for financial assistance. To apply for loans or to receive more information about the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, visit www.SBA.gov/disaster or call 800-659-2955.

Education

Gov. Eric Holcomb and Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jennifer McCormick recently announced that all K-12 schools, public and private, will be closed until May 1. In addition, the IREAD and ILEARN assessments have been canceled.

The Indiana Department of Education (DOE) is providing teachers and students a variety of free educational resources for eLearning, including information about free or low-cost WiFi connectivity and subject area and grade-level specific digital learning sites. Visit in.gov/doe to access these resources.

In addition, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education is compiling information for Indiana's public and private postsecondary institutions – closures, revised academic calendars etc.
