Holdman: State and Local Tax Review Task Force to hold first meeting

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 15, 2023) — The newly created State and Local Tax Review Task Force is set to hold its first meeting Wednesday, Aug. 23, said State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle).

The Task Force was created through Senate Enrolled Act 3, a Senate Republican agenda bill Holdman authored during the 2023 legislative session. Holdman, who will serve as chair of the Task Force this year, said the group will conduct a holistic review of Indiana's financial position and tax system.

"Fiscally conservative leadership at the Statehouse has continued to improve Indiana's economic situation," Holdman said. "As we pay down our pension obligations and continue to see healthy revenue performance, we need to prepare for our state's financial future."

Holdman said lawmakers hope to use the findings from the task force to identify transformational opportunities like cutting or streamlining our state's income tax, eliminating property taxes on homes, or any number of other tax reforms in order to benefit Hoosier taxpayers.

The task force is set to meet over the next two years, with recommendations due to the General Assembly ahead of the 2025 budget session.

The Task Force's first meeting will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. in Room 130 at the Statehouse.
