STATEHOUSE (Feb. 16, 2024) β Annabel Freeman and Miguel Salas Prieto are serving as interns for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus during the 2024 legislative session, said State Sen. Greg Walker (R-Columbus).
Freeman, a resident of Columbus, is the daughter of Anne and Andrew Freeman. Freeman graduated from Columbus North High School and is currently a sophomore studying natural resources and environmental science at Purdue University.
Salas Prieto, a resident of Columbus, is the son of Miguel Salas and Ramona Prieto. Salas Prieto graduated from Columbus North High School and IUPUI with a degree in Cybersecurity.
βIt's very important for young Hoosiers to be involved in their communities and learn what goes into state government and lawmaking,β Walker said. "I'm grateful for all the interns who take this time to learn about public service and help us navigate the legislative season."
As a legislative assistant intern, Freeman tracks and analyzes bill data, provides constituent services, staffs Senate committee hearings and meetings and conducts legislative policy research.
"I am honored to play a small part in state government and to use my skills to assist legislators through this short session. I know this internship will provide me with connections and opportunities that will assist me throughout my future," Freeman said.
As an IT intern, Salas Prieto helps senators and staff troubleshoot technology issues and run cameras and other equipment during committee meetings so hearings can be livestreamed online.
"I am happy to begin my IT career with the Indiana State Senate Republicans," Salas Prieto said.
Senate Majority interns work through the duration of the legislative session, which is scheduled to end by March 14.
