STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2024) — Communities in Senate District 5 will receive nearly $9.1 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program (CCMG), said State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso).

The CCMG, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2016, aims to advance community infrastructure projects, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. Since its enactment, the program has awarded nearly $1.7 billion in state matching funds for local construction projects.

In Senate District 5, the following communities received grants:

  • Brookston received $219,225;
  • Hebron received $297,428.49;
  • Jasper County received $1.5 million;
  • Medaryville received $165,065.99;
  • Monticello received $1,038,258;
  • Porter County received $1.5 million;
  • Pulaski County received $1,032,285;
  • Valparaiso received $1.5 million;
  • White County received $1.5 million; and
  • Wolcott received $340,295.25.

"Hoosiers rely on Indiana's roads and bridges every day, so it's critical that these transportation networks are properly maintained and strengthened," Charbonneau said. "I am pleased to see so many local communities receive funding through the program, and I look forward to seeing the infrastructure improvements throughout the state."

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.

The CCMG offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in July of 2024.
