Bohacek: LaPorte and Starke counties awarded COVID-19 response funding

STATEHOUSE (May 2, 2020) – Two counties in Senate District 8 will be awarded funds through the new COVID-19 Response Program, said State Sen. Mike Bohacek (R-Michiana Shores). Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) recently announced an additional 49 rural communities across the state will receive a total of $8.8 million of the new federal grant funding.

LaPorte County is receiving $250,000 to provide grants to small business to serve as working capital for the purpose of retaining jobs within those businesses.

Starke County is receiving $75,000 to establish service through a local non-profit to deliver needed supplies to quarantined individuals or those who are medically vulnerable.

"Caring for our most vulnerable Hoosiers is especially critical during this time of uncertainty," Bohacek said. "I am grateful to see these counties receive this needed funding and know it will be beneficial in supporting local Hoosiers and businesses impacted by the COVID-19 crisis."

To date, $10.7 million has been awarded to rural Indiana communities through the COVID-19 response program. More projects will be announced as they continue to be evaluated and reviewed by OCRA.
